Timeless Wedding Style

Choosing a wedding style that stands the test of time is not as easy as you might think.  And what really is a timeless wedding style anyway? It’s when you can look back over your wedding photos in 30 years’ time and not feel the urge to cringe or laugh at the crazy fashions of yesteryear.  It’s not feeling as though you are dying a little inside every time you leaf through your wedding album, wondering why on earth you made those choices!  It’s loving everything about your wedding day as if it were only yesterday. If you can do this, then you have nailed the brief of a timeless wedding!

Rustic Weddings

A rustic wedding will always stand the test of time.  It’s also a style that can be easily combined with others – to make it your own. Perhaps you’re a little eclectic or bohemian, a country girl at heart or a lover of all things vintage? Whatever it is, your wedding day should be a reflection of who you are and you can create something that is unique and personalised by choosing a rustic style and then adding a twist!

No matter which combination you prefer, a rustic style wedding will always be a relaxed, charming, fun and memorable affair!  It’s the perfect way to bring families and friendship groups together so that everyone feels part of your special day!

So where do you start when planning a rustic style wedding?  Here’s a few tips to help you on your way:

Rustic Wedding Venues

Rustic weddings are often held in venues such as barns, gardens, backyards, warehouses, farms, vineyards, olive groves and marquees.  But if you’ve got a creative eye or an expert wedding stylist, then you can hold one pretty much anywhere!

Wedding Colours

I would advise against choosing just one or two colours for your wedding – you will drive yourself nuts trying to make sure everything is matching and the effect can sometimes date quite quickly.  Instead, consider choosing an overall colour palette, such as vintage pastels, country brights or nature-inspired hues.  This mis-matched effect never fails to complement a rustic wedding.

Wedding Inspiration

Thanks to the online world we live in, it’s super easy to find inspiration for your perfect wedding day.  Whenever you stumble across something that resonates with you, save it in one place for further reference.  Whether it’s a Pinterest board, folder on your phone or laptop, a saved collection on Instagram or an old-fashioned mood board, it will be a valuable tool in helping you fine-tune and coordinate a seamless theme for your wedding!

The Dress

Whether you like it or not, you and your wedding dress will be the centrepiece of the entire day so always keep your wedding style in mind when you are dress shopping!  For a timeless look, remember that ‘less is more’ so if you’re planning a rustic style wedding, then buying a huge Cinderella ball gown probably isn’t the way to go!  Deciding on your theme and colour palette beforehand will help narrow down the choices, making it less confusing and easier to find ‘the one’!  Take your wedding inspiration collection with you to the store and share it with your assistant.  You will find most wedding boutique staff are well-trained and can guide you towards finding the gown that fits your style perfectly!

Furniture and Décor Hire

If your venue doesn’t have suitable furniture, then it’s important to hire the right pieces to bring your vision and aesthetic to life. Never underestimate the importance of choosing the right tables and chairs for your wedding day.  They really can make or break the overall look and feel of your ceremony and reception spaces.  For a timeless, rustic wedding, wooden banquet tables always create a classic and amazing look and pair beautifully with wooden Bentwood chairs or any version of the ever-popular Tiffany chair.  Whether it’s walnut, white, gold or silver, Tiffany chairs coordinate really well with a rustic wedding style, it all depends on which ‘twist’ you have chosen!

Other décor items that are perfect for a timeless rustic wedding are wooden wedding arches and arbours, Persian or rattan aisle runners, festoon lights, wooden easels and (my personal favourite) wine barrels.  Wine barrels are super versatile and, as well as providing a relaxed and rustic feeling, they can also be used as a cake display table, a place for your guests to congregate around and rest their drinks and, if you’ve hired an esky wine barrel, they also have a compartment which holds ice and more refreshments!  Pair these with a market umbrella and some Bentwood stools, and you have instantly created a relaxed, beer garden atmosphere that your guests will love!

Once you have chosen your wedding furniture and décor, be sure to book them as soon as possible, as you will find many vendors can be booked up to 18 months in advance!

Invitations

Many couples don’t realise the importance of their wedding invitations.  They’re not just there to let friends and family know where to go and at what time things will be happening on the day, they also set the scene and give the lucky recipient a hint as to the style of this very special occasion! Invitations are there to ignite the excitement and expectation for the day.  There’s no need to panic however, as you don’t need to blow your budget to get this effect.  Etsy has some gorgeous designs that can be emailed to your inbox for printing.  Always print them on quality paper and choose eye-catching envelopes in your colour palette or, if you’re going rustic, brown envelopes printed with a decorative font or embellished with a cute seal also work really well!

Transport, etc

Now that you’ve locked in all of the above, everything else will fall into place more easily.  Make a statement with your wedding transport on the day by keeping your wedding style in mind.  Vintage rustic? – treat yourself to a ride in a vintage Bentley. Country rustic? – imagine your guests’ faces when you surprise them with a horse and carriage arrival! Whatever choices you’re making: be it your wedding cake, flowers, favours, etc, always keep your style, colour palette and who you are in mind and you can’t go wrong!

The ultimate goal for most couples is to have a wedding day that is enjoyed by all and stands the test of time.  For a timeless wedding you will look back on with an overwhelming sense of pride and joy, go rustic, you won’t regret it!
